Baking news: have your card and eat it

This week it’s been all about cakes and cards here at SO, and it’s been mad fun.

Unless you live under a rock you’ll know that GBBO has returned to our screens, which set the scene for our latest shenanigans, with the wonderful people at Moonpig.

As the nation whipped itself into a baking frenzy, we created a brand new range of birthday cards that were both edible and flavoured like British classic cakes.

A birthday card AND cake rolled into one. A batch made in heaven, you might say.

Lemon Drizzle for that slightly bitter in-law? Check. Victoria Sponge for the Queen in the family? We got you. Decadent chocolate or a creamy, luxurious swiss roll for that posh cousin? Or perhaps a classic Battenberg for the friend who just gets batten with age?

Five birthday cards, five cake flavours. All deliciously edible.

The story landed with a bang and the coverage quickly stacked up (60+ pieces and counting) including hits on Absolute Radio, Heart FM, a scattering of BBC stations, The Sun, Good Housekeeping, Yahoo, MSN, Delish and On In London to name a handful.

Life’s batter with cake, right? Hell yeah, it is.
